3 wins highlight 2009 racing season for Elliott despain and despain motorsports

Coming off a 4-win season in 2008, Elliott Despain and his Despain Motorsports team had high hopes of exceeding the four wins but came up one win short in posting a 3-win season here in 2009. The team finished 8th in points while competing as a rookie in the Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series and, again for the third consecutive season, posted a 6th place points finish in part-time participation at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY.

Much like last year when Elliott posted all four (4) of his wins at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY, all three (3) of his 2009 victories were scored at Clinton County Speedway in Alpha, KY, to go along with two runner-up finishes in his five visits to the south-central Kentucky racing facility.

As a full first-time competitor on the Battle of the Bluegrass Open Wheel Modified Series, Team Despain finished a respectable 8th place in points while missing one of the early season races. The series is a summer-long competition of the region’s best Open Wheel Modified drivers in action at tracks in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. In seven (7) main event attempts on the BoB tour, Elliott’s highest finishing position was twice a 6th place finisher at Richmond (KY) Raceway and Ponderosa (KY) Speedway. Results could have been much better had it not been for two engine failures that hampered some racing events throughout the season.

For the year, Despain Motorsports entered 30 main events and, as mentioned before, scored 3 wins to go along with 10 top-5 finishes and 5 top-10's. The team also had 8 finishes in the top-15 while posting 1 DNS and 3 DNF. Elliott just completed his fourth year of racing in Open Wheel Modified competition.

2009 was a successful racing season for Despain Motorsports and the team now eagerly anticipates the 2010 season in search of more wins and higher finishes. Elliott will continue to compete at local area tracks in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio while also entering higher paying events in the tri-state region. The team is also planning to compete in a newly organized, yet to be named, regional touring series in 2010 for Open Wheel Modified racers that will race under the United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) rules and regulations.
